Perron Institute for Neurological and Translational Science, Forrest Research Foundation and The University of Western Australia are proud to present the return of the Neuro Nouveau: when art meets science exhibition.

The multidisciplinary artworks were created by adventurous undergraduate students of NEUR1001 Neuroscience in Society, a first-year unit in the Neuroscience Major at UWA.

NEUR1001 breaks down the boundaries between art and science in a major assignment where students explore neuroscience mechanisms through creative expression.

The exhibition highlights the power of creative and scientific thinking, highlighting how art can illuminate the workings of the brain while maintaining scientific rigor.

Topics explored include Alzheimer’s disease, addiction, neurotransmitter release, glutamate synthesis, action potentials, circadian rhythms and caffeine, dopamine and love, stress and memory.

Alongside visual artworks, there are video and music pieces, a sculpture, two poems, two textile works, and a board game set out for visitors to play.

The exhibition will be open to the public and runs over the weekend of March 21 and 22, 11am to 4pm at Forrest Hall to coincide with Brain Awareness Week and UWA Open Day 22 March.

Admission is free, and all members of the community are encouraged to attend and support the next generation of artists and scientists.
