From the United Kingdom to Japan, a global election super cycle is taking place with 57 national elections held throughout 2024. As millions head to the polls, a spotlight is cast onto the strength of political systems, resiliency of democracy and the steps required to safeguard our democratic future.
The Forrest Research Foundation in partnership with the UWA Public Policy Institute, Office of Kate Chaney and Western Australian Museum co-hosted an evening with Professor AC Grayling, Oxford academic, best-selling author and celebrated philosopher.
Throughout the 90 minute in-conversation, Kate Chaney MP and Professor Grayling delved into the question “What can we do to safeguard democracy?” Which centred on the changing political landscape, importance of representation and significance of the party line in politics today.
The Foundation was also honoured to have Professor Grayling launch the first Perth Dialogue. With the start of the series focused on ‘pragmatic idealism: how we can find common ground in an age of despair’ cowritten by Michael Sheldrick and Professor James Arvanitakis, read it here.
