Forrest researchers, policymakers and community members came together at the National Science Week Showcase on Saturday to celebrate discovery, innovation and curiosity.
The event welcomed The Hon. Minister Stephen Dawson, Minister for Regional Development; Ports; Science and Innovation; Medical Research; and Minister for the Kimberley, The Hon. Dr Pawinder Kaur MLC, and Kate Chaney MP, alongside researchers, students and community members.
Designed for audiences of all ages and backgrounds, the showcase featured a program of short keynote presentations, interactive science stations and opportunities for visitors to speak directly with researchers about their work. Through the Ask-a-Scientist sessions, guests were able to explore scientific ideas in an informal setting and learn more about the research taking place across a wide range of disciplines.
Visitors also had the chance to experience science in action through a series of hands-on activities delivered in partnership with Supersonic Science. From elephant’s toothpaste to burning bubbles, the demonstrations provided engaging ways to explore the principles behind chemistry, physics and engineering.
The event highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for researchers and the broader community to connect, fostering curiosity and encouraging conversations about the role of science in our everyday lives.
National Science Week continues to provide an important platform for celebrating Australian research, inspiring future scientists and sharing the discoveries that shape our world.
