The Forrest Research Foundation was honoured to host Noongar Elder and community leader, Dr Noel Nannup. A respected Aboriginal Elder, storyteller and cultural guide, Dr Nannup visited the Foundation alongside film-maker Lillian Robb for a special screening of Mammung. Directed by Maevia Griffiths and Lillian Robb, the short documentry tells the story of the rapid sea-level rise WA experienced 10,000 years ago and explores the living memory that Noongar people hold of this event.
The film follows Dr Noel Nannup in recalling the significance of places which are now below the sea and explaining the process of change that indigenous people endured through the narrative dreaming story of Mammung the whale. In partnership with the team at Danjoo Koorliny, an in-conversation followed hosted by Forrest Scholar Molly Schmidt.
