The Forrest Research Foundation were honoured to welcome Professor Jessica Dempsey, Director General of the SKA Observatory, to Forrest Hall for a special event co-hosted with the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering (ATSE).
Professor Dempsey shared her vision for the future of the SKAO, the exciting progress being made in astronomy, and the responsibility scientists have to the communities they work alongside. It was wonderful to see her connect with our early-career researchers and discuss the opportunities, challenges and impact of a career in science.

Professor Jessica Dempsey is a pioneering figure in the field of radio astronomy and a strong advocate for diversity and equality in science. Professor Dempsey has made significant contributions to the study of the Milky Way’s molecular composition and the first images of supermassive black holes through her work with the Event Horizon Telescope. She has been instrumental in building and operating astronomical telescopes across the globe, including the South Pole and Hawaii.
