Prof Andrew J. Deeks

Professor Andrew Deeks is an Australian academic leader and the current Vice Chancellor and President of Murdoch University. His academic career commenced at The University of Western Australia in 1988, and he became a Winthrop Professor in Civil and Resources Engineering there in 2004.

Prof Deeks has previously held the positions of Head of the School of Civil and Resource Engineering at The University of Western Australia, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Science at Durham University, and was President of University College Dublin from 2014-2022. He became Vice Chancellor of Murdoch University in April 2022. In November 2022, Prof Deeks became the first Australian to be elected President of the International Association of Universities in its 72-year history.

Prof Deeks holds a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, a Masters in Engineering Science and a PhD – all from The University of Western Australia. His research was focused on structural dynamics, mechanics and dynamic soil structure, with more than 150 published papers to his name.
